The Shoreline
An immense span of open ocean is stretched out for miles on end. It's a quiet and scerene place. Most of the time. The waters are always gently lapping at the sandy shore and the sounds of the ocean is soothing and welcoming but hiding a number of various dangers. Wild sea beasts, ocean dwelling Lusii and sea dwellers roam free. Most don't seem to take kindly to land dwellers.
But no need to worry, The Shoreline can range from a multitude of places. Just like The Alley it is a general location with no true setting.
Feel free to have a swim or build your sandy empire.

It seemed so dead silent, aside from the foamy waves lapping at the shore. The beach was empty. No signs of life from beast or troll alike. It was rather comforting really. Palser would grasp onto these quiet moments before it was ruined by the bothersome presence of land dwellers. And without witnesses he could indulge himself in his side hobby. Kites. Standing ankle deep in the dark waters and watching his manta ray themed aerial device catch the breeze and light from the moon. Damn this was kinda boring too.

You always thought that the ocean was more beautiful from the surface. There is nothing wrong with the world from under the waves, you love it down there as well, but there is just something mystifying about the moon and stars sliding across the water's ripples. And when you watch the cosmos dance with the tide from a high cliff side, you feel happy and at ease. Tonight is one of those nights where you sit on the jagged ground and observe the fateful tango-- or, it would have been, if something in the sky hadn't caught your attention.
Your webbed toes dangle dangerously near the edge as you peer into the clouds. With your vision, aided with the brightness of the moon, you're able to make out a....chirpbeast of some sort. You ponder over it for a moment, and quickly toss that deduction aside. It's no featherbeast. It's movements are too rapid and jerky for a beast. Not only that, but it doesn't seem to move from it's current vicinity. It dips suddenly and your gaze lowers.
Your body immediately tenses, wary. There is a troll on the shore. You can't tell if it's a land dweller or another sea dweller --not that it should matter to you at all, who cares about the hemospectrum?-- but, either way, you're on your guard. Who knows if they are friendly or not?
You suppose it would be a good time to abscond back into the ocean and retreat to your hive, but there would be no way of getting back to the water without being spotted. Your brow furrows as you mull over your options.
Wait until the troll leaves --who knows when that will be-- or climb down the cliff and greet the one on shore?
You decide you're pretty busy tonight, have to organize your piles (or at least try to), and move to make your way down to the sand below. Even at the base of the cliff, you're still quite a distance away from the other troll, but if he, or she, turned just a little bit, you wouldn't be surprised if you were spotted.

Palser feels that strange prickle on the back of his neck. That subtle warning that told him he wasn't alone. Though he's so wrapped up in watching his paper kite dip and sway to the smooth breeze he would never let himself be lulled into false security. It was just a quick glance to the side at first before he did a double take. For now it was just a dark shadow but steadily his eyes adjusted and made out the lone figure as another troll. It could be bothersome. He attempts to play it off like he hadn't obviously spotted the other troll. Drawling back his cloth and wooden device from the night sky steadily as not to arise suspicion. And when his usual small amount of patience has dwindled he finally turned slowly toward the new comer, expression as bored as always. Sometimes subtly wasn't his best assets.

Quite rudely, you stare.
What else are you supposed to do? You're not sure if a strife is in the near future, and if one is, you'd rather avoid it. You have nothing against a good brawl; negative, you rather enjoy them sometimes, keeps you fit. Or, at least, more fit than swimming in the ocean does. Either way, you remain beside the cliff, your back to the jagged rocks, already prepared to extract your pickaxe if need be.
You have manners and decency, however, and you're urged to do something other than stare. So, with a confident voice, you offer a simple "HEEllo", which is loud enough to be heard over the ocean's song. Even with the greeting, you're prepared to dive into the water to escape, if you must. Yet, on closer inspection of the troll before you, that would probably be a rather pointless thing to do. After all, he's a Sea Dweller, too.

There's a long pause as Palser quickly looks the other sea troll over. it seems the both of you are now having a bit of an awkward staring contest. Rolling the rest of the string to his kite before captchaloging it with a causal flick of his wrist. His brow raising at the rather boisterous hello. And as another troll with manners and prestige he made a slight inclination with his head and offered his own greeting. "Hello~o. I ho~ope the night finds yo~ou well."Most of that earlier tension had eased out of his shoulders though he wasn't fully letting his guard down. Just because one shared the same blood didn't mean there was any real mutual sense of camaraderie. It was that simple. Taking the initiative and approaching carefully.

"QuitEE wEEl, & I hopEE the samEE for you." You reply, no less wary. You're rather tempted to lock your gaze back onto the water, but you know better. Your eyes remain firmly glued to the one before you, and you remain still, tense in the shadow of the cliff.
To be honest, you're a bit surprised to find another troll on this shore. You weren't aware that there were other hives near yours, which is funny, in a way, since you explore virtually everything. You have this area mapped perfectly inside your thinkpan. But then again, the planet will ever hold its mysteries, and who is to say this troll is from around here? Who is to say you explored the entire area? You are rather extensive with each place you discover, and it takes quite a bit of time for you to be satisfied enough to move on.
Absently, your gills flare a few times as curiosity gets the better of you. "Do you rEEsidEE somEEwhEErEE nEEarby?"
You don't expect an answer to this question. Who would be foolish enough to give that information away to a stranger?
Still, you can't help to ask.

Ah, all this tension is going to give Palser a headache. Pinching the bridge of his nose with some disdain before locking both his arms behind his back and keep up a perfectly regal posture. Sighing heavily and trying to smile for once. "I assure yo~ou my hive is far fro~om here. I have no~o interest in o~over stepping my bo~oundaries. If this is yo~our beach that is."Best to keep from seeming like a threat. After all this was just a beach he frequently visited just to get away from his Lusus and his overbearing Moirail. "Tho~ough I have been here several times and I do~on't think I've seen yo~ou befo~ore. Co~ould I have yo~our name?"

You can't help the faint, little smirk that plasters itself on your lips. You haven't spoken to anyone, in person, who wasn't your lusus, in ages. And let's face it. You can't really hold a conservation with that beast. You're quite pleased that this fellow is polite, though, even if it may be a charade.
"I would't nEEcEEssarily claim the bEEach as my own. & you arEE simply visiting, it sEEEEms, no harm donEE."
Despite everything, you allow some of the tension to ease its way out of your muscles. Slowly and carefully, you take a few steps forward, out of the cliff's shadow, yet stop at a point that is at a comfortable distance. You stuff your hands into the pocket of your hoodie, and your body relaxes into your familiar slouched position.
Your head cocks to the side, and lightly, you inquire, "Don't you bEEliEEvEE you should givEE your own namEE bEEforEE rEEcivEEing onEE?"

Hah, well it seems this fellow sea troll is rather quick to turn the tables on Palser. His slight, faux smile becoming something more genuine. Seeing the other troll under the moonlight does help and he would have to say he wasn't too bad on the eyes, in his opinion. Becoming a little more lax. Rolling his shoulders in a slight shrug. "Well, I see no~o harm in it. Being equals and all. I am Palser. Perhaps no~ow I can get yo~our name? And why yo~ou what brings yo~ou to this lo~ovely span o~of sho~re. Alo~one, presumably?"

"I go by REEEEius." You incline your head in a slight dip, your gaze flickering briefly toward the water, before once again returning to the tro- Palser. Your smile grows a tad more, showing more of your white fangs. But only a smile grin. "I'm alonEE bEEcausEE that's how trolls livEE. AlonEE." You're just teasing of course, only playing with his words, you're not being rude, or sarcastic, or anything like that. "I was out, EExploring." The toes of your bare feet dig into the sand. Unfortunately, you hadn't uncovered anything of interest before you were distracted by the water, and in extension, Palser. However, the night is still young, and you're inclined to bring something back to your hive before the sun comes.
Casually, you retort with a question of your own. "What was that objEEct you wEErEE controlling bEEforEE?" You're often under the water or, if on land, in a cave somewhere. You're not really familiar with items that don't have to do with mining or the dirt you walk on.

"Then is it a pleasure to~o meet yo~ou, Reeius. I do~on't get to~o meet many interesting sea tro~olls these days."The little play on words does make Palser's lips twitch into a much more noticeable smile. Intrigued by the mention of exploring. Had Palser been any other usual sea dweller he would have questioned as to why a fellow high blooded seafarer would bother wading on dry land. Though he himself was in the same situation. Thus landing him in this awkward position now. The question pertaining to his kite, his bizarre hobby that required one to be on land. His smile falters a bit. "O~o~oh, yo~ou saw that? It is no~othing so~o interesting, I assure yo~ou."Still uncertain of how Reeius would react to the mention of the daily visits to land. That compulsion to seek out the company of those who are genetically inferior to himself. Well, might as well go for it. "It's so~omething I created. To~o so~oar o~on the winds as o~one wo~ould in the waves."

You nod slowly, thinking this information over. "You claim that it is nothing, yEEt you sEEEEm a bit EEagEEr to spEEak of it." You're curious, though, you're always curious over new things. That's why you explore, and that's why you read. To gain knowledge. And anything could contribute to knowledge, even that strange object Palser had in the air. So you take it a bit further and inquire, "ArEE you, pEErhaps, an invEEntor of somEE sort?" You find yourself wishing you could create things. You've tried different artistic mediums before, but generally, you suck at anything creative at all, not matter what it may be. Not that it bothers you too much. Maybe only a little.

Palser raised both brows this time. It seemed this new sea dweller here was all sorts of probing. Whether he found that quality amusing or annoying he wasn't too sure just yet. Instead he gives another slight roll of his shoulders in a shrug. Kicking at the dark waters swirled around his feet. Averting his eyes to look out at the ocean and its reflection on the shifting waves.
"I am far fro~om an invento~or but I do~o enjo~oy wo~orking with my hands. It is called a Kite. I make them, amo~ongst o~other things in my spare time. A ho~obby mo~ore then anything. Perhaps yo~ou wo~ould care to~o try? I bring extra in the o~off chance I lo~o~ose o~one."
The offer stands but requires Reeius to scoot on a little closer. If he could trust the other troll.

You are a little shocked by the offer, and your eyebrows raise in mild surprise. As much as your curiosity tells you to accept, you shake your head. "I must dEEclinEE, though I thank you." Even if Palser doesn't seem hostile, you're still not entirely comfortable getting any closer to him. Besides, you wouldn't know how to control the kite, and you'd rather not make a fool of yourself.
You do, however, step into the water, halting when the waves lap at your knees. Your gills flare, as if calling for hydration, and the fins on your ankles spread slightly with the tide.
You can still see Palser out of the corner of your eye, you won't let him out of your sight, and you ask, "ArEE you on shorEE oftEEn?" Normally, you could careless about such trivial information, but as was stated before, you hadn't spoken to anyone in a while. The chitchat is nice, you think.

It was safe to say Palser was a little saddened being turned down. He never really got the chance to share his little aereal contraptions with many trolls. It showed on his face for a moment, his disappointment, before he hid it behind a stoic expression. He watched his fellow high blood enter the water in an attempt to rehydrate. And perhaps not the best idea, Palser plopped himself down in the water where he stood. Legs crossed and leaning back on his hands while he turned out toward the ocean and just as the same kept his eyes on Reeius. "We are o~of the same caste, sho~ould we no~ot have a little less to wo~orry abo~out aro~ound o~one ano~other? The tensio~on is a bit bo~otherso~ome."Really, they were both equals, should there be a reason to be so weary? Most likely yes but Palser just was too much of a pacifist. Now taking a long moment to mull over Reeius' inquiry. Again he wasn't too sure what the other sea dweller would think of him and his admittance. Going for with with a sheepish grin. "As fo~or yo~our questio~on, yes. I... do~o spend a lo~ot o~of time abo~ove water. It's hard to~o fly a kite beneath the waves."

"WEE arEE of the samEE castEE," You agree, "All the morEE rEEason to stay on guard." You turn to face him, the waves hitting the back of your knees and urging you to sit. You comply, and lower yourself into the water as well, becoming soaked from the chest down. The gills on your ribs flare happily underneath your hoodie, and you let out a small sigh. "HowEEvEEr, I agrEE. I will rEEfrain from any inappropriatEE bEEhavior, such as EEngaging a strife, unlEEss provokEEd othEErwisEE." If you had the choice, you'd avoid conflict all together. Though, if you did, you would be weak, and that just won't do for a Sea Dweller.
"PEErhaps you should continuEE to fly your contraption if that is what you camEE hEErEE to do." You suggest absently.

"I can abide by such agreement. No~o strifing."He nods, tilting his head back and sighing with a similar contentment. It was nice to enjoy the water and still carry on a pleasant conversation. His Moirail tended to avoid water when he could. Something about the ocean being much larger then a lake. "O~oh, well, it's no~ot quite the same when so~omeo~one is watching me. But is yo~ou sho~ould try it with me... It's no~ot hard. But what abo~out yo~ou. Surely yo~ou were up to~o so~omething befo~ore I interrupted?"He managed an awkward smile. There was no real way to show off with a kite but plenty of ways to fail. And something about having the other sea troll watch him made him worry if he did something embarrassing. Besides, that was just half the reason he was hanging around here. That reason coming in the form of several slowly creeping creatures beginning to crawl up on shore. Horseshoe shaped crustaceans.

Once again, you decline flying the kite with a shake of your head. You simply can't risk making a fool of yourself. But you do reply to the other question, with a little smile on your lips. "Climbing the cliff sidEE," you tilt your head toward said cliff, gesturing, "& prEEparing to dig for jEEwEEls, or anything EElsEE which capturEEs my intEEreEEt." One of your many journals appear in your hands, and flipping a few pages, you extract a card, thus extracting a small sapphire from your sylladex. It's a tiny gem, though you treasure it nonetheless. You hold it out for Palser's inspection. He's also a sea dweller, though, so it shouldn't be all too interesting to him. "I collEEct thEEm," you explain.
As royalty, you could get them easily, but that's no fun. You'd rather find them yourself, and get dirty doing it.

Palser turned to glance at the cliff then back to Reeius. Nodding along as he fetched a capachalouged gem. Inspecting it as well as he could from this distance. The glint it gave from just the moonlight catching it at an angle proved it's worth enough. Though precious stones and metals came too easy, as a sea dweller. Any amount of excitement over it was lost but not the hint of exploration. Now that would get his attention.
"So~o, yo~ou're a treasure hunter o~of so~ome so~ort then? I tried my luck at that. But it didn't end well."
Subconsciously his hand reached up and he ran his fingers over the gem on his forehead. The large, purple jewel planted on his forehead. A physical reminder.
"I learned my lesso~on. I'm no~ot quite cut o~out fo~or daring explo~oratio~on. So~o I stick to~o so~omething a bit clo~oser to~o ho~ome. I'm a co~ollecto~or o~of a different so~ort."
He cocked his head to side, his interests obviously been peaked and old memories of sweeps past still lingering in his head.
"Maybe yo~ou co~ould share so~ome sto~ories, if yo~ou have any. So~ome particular treasures yo~ou are pro~oud o~of?"

You nod, returning the jewel to your sylladex. "WhEEn I was youngEEr," you begin, "I was EExploring the arEEa around my hivEE, & I camEE across a largEE pEEarl. It was bEEautiful, & it startEEd my...obsEEssion. I still own it, & it is my most trEEasurEEd, if not in valuEE, than in pEErsonal opinion." Not really a fascinating story, so you cut it short. You'd tell of a different adventure, but you'd rather not bore this troll away. Besides, all the tales are generally the same, give or take a few monstrous beast encounters.
Your eyes flicker to the jewel upon Palser's forehead, and silently, you admire it, attempting to not stare in your fascination. It may be rude to ask, but before you can purse your lips, the words are past your lips. "Is thEErEE a story bEEhind that jewel?"

Ah, well it seems it was bound to come up anyway. Palser sat forward, arms resting on his knees. Mulling over what he was going to say.
"Well, I wasn't the easiest to~o get alo~ong with when I was still a wriggler. I hated my lusus fo~or the lo~ongest. I ventured further and further fro~om my hive. All I cared abo~out was explo~oring, finding o~odds and ends, getting as far away as I co~ould. Getting into~o tro~ouble, flirting with danger. My lusus pursued me o~one day, as I tried to~o flee I slammed head first into~o a co~oral reef."
It was needless to say how painful that experience was. Or would have been if he could remember much after that.
"I wo~oke up, with a puzzled memo~ory fo~or the lo~ongest, with my lusus watching o~over me. He gave this to~o me. As an appo~olo~ogy o~or a reminder, I've never been sure."
And he found it pretty stylish along with covering up that nasty scar.

You can't help it. You know it could be offending, but you just can't help it. You snicker. You laugh lightly behind your hand, shaking your head. "My dEEEEpEEst apologiEEs. That is quitEE a...silly talEE." You grin sheepishly, submerging your hand back into the water. "It looks nicEE though, so pEErhaps that is a good thing."
You seal your lips tight after that one. You feel too at ease. You should not be so comfortable around this troll, this stranger. It's hard, though. You seem to have many things in common with him.

He scoffed and instead of lashing out and going on about honor or hurt pride Palser simply pouts. Pouts and splashes the other sea troll in a very wrigglerish manner. After that passes he resumes his usual stoic and aloft expression. That was a rather traumatic time in his life but that will teach him not to share any more deep and meaningful experiences with total strangers.
"I can see ho~ow that wo~ould be silly. It was several sweeps ago~o."
Yeah, best way to try and put that behind him. Claim it was forever ago when in reality it was no more then two sweeps. Blushing and letting it roll off his shoulders casually at the mention of how nice Reeius thought his gem was.
"No~othing wro~ong with being silly every no~ow and then. Yo~ou o~only have so~o much time to~o enjo~oy such things."
Pushing himself to his feet again he decided he would try to fly his kite again. If only to try and spark the interest in his new friend. Reeius was looking a little more relaxed anyway. Picking up a polished stone off of the sandy shore and tossed it. A moment later it returned in the form of one of his hand crafted aerial devices. Glad it wasn't a fish this time. His fling modus could be so touchy sometimes.
Unraveling the string and testing the breeze.

You return to your feet to slosh your way out of the water and onto the shore. You don't really feel like soaking at the moment, and the waves keep pulling you farther into the ocean's embrace. Not only is that a bit vexing to you, but it'd be easier to watch Palser, and his kite, from the sandy beach. So you plop down onto the muddy bank, a little bit behind and to the left of the other troll, and watch as the strange flying contraption is tossed expertly into the salty breeze.
Absently, you imagine that flying is something like swimming, except with less water and more air and clouds. You think it would be cool to fly and to be able to see every thing from so high up. Yet, if given the opportunity, you don't think you'd want to fly at all. If you had wings or something, they'd just be a bother under the water.
You cross you legs and slouch forward, your elbows on your knees and your face in your hands. "WEE havEE morEE timEE to EEnjoy things than most."
